Isola del Garda – A Luxurious Venue for Your Wedding on Lake Garda
There are few wedding locations in Italy as well-known as Isola del Garda. Perhaps Villa Balbiano and Villa Balbianello come close in terms of recognition, but these villas are nowhere near as special as Isola del Garda. Fun fact: my dear wedding planner friend Svenja from Epic Weddings & Events and I lovingly call Isola del Garda "Isolde." Why? Honestly, I have no idea. X-D But back to the topic...
In 2024, I had the opportunity to see this unique wedding venue in person for the first time—and of course, to photograph it. As a wedding photographer, being in such a stunning location in Italy without being able to take pictures would feel like physical pain to me. In short, I was completely overwhelmed. The exclusivity of this place will impress every couple and leave all wedding guests in awe.
A small island on Lake Garda is home to Isola del Garda. It is just a few minutes away from the mainland by boat, yet far enough that you feel like you’re on a secluded island, completely on your own. For wedding couples, this offers many advantages, but above all, it provides absolute exclusivity!
Celebrate Your Wedding on Isola del Garda
I was lucky enough to experience the exceptional service on Isola del Garda firsthand. We were warmly welcomed, and every wish was anticipated before we even voiced it. As a wedding couple, you will surely feel just as well taken care of as I did. It’s also worth mentioning that the island is privately owned, and the owners still live there. Perhaps this is why the warmth is so tangible. I am already looking forward to photographing a wedding here in the spring of 2025!
Getting Ready
The only minor downside—though it’s really complaining at a high level—is that there are no hotel rooms available for getting ready. While there are some available spaces where you can dress up, it doesn’t quite compare to a traditional getting-ready experience. That’s why most couples choose to prepare in their hotel (e.g., at the Grand Hotel Gardone) before taking a boat to the island to change into their wedding attire. Some even arrive already dressed in their wedding gown and suit, depending on the timeline of the day.
The Ceremony
As a wedding couple, you have many options for celebrating your wedding here. However, most couples are drawn to Isola del Garda because they want to hold their ceremony on the stunning terrace. The view is breathtaking, and the architecture is simply a dream. What many don’t know is that you can come to the island just for the ceremony without having to host the entire wedding there.
Champagne Reception
After the ceremony, you and your guests can move directly to the garden for a relaxed champagne reception while enjoying the spectacular view. The flowers climbing along the villa’s façade are a true highlight and can be seen from afar—even if you’re just passing the island by boat. However, keep in mind that these flowers do not bloom all year round!
Where Do Dinner and the Party Take Place on Isola del Garda?
After the reception, all guests are escorted to the dinner area. You’ll walk past the boat dock and through a beautifully landscaped garden to reach the large pavilion. This pavilion is an incredibly spacious tent that can accommodate up to 100 guests while still leaving plenty of room for a dance floor. It is white (partially transparent), has a wooden floor, and can be partially opened on the sides. At the back of the pavilion, there is a catering kitchen, ensuring that all preparations happen discreetly out of sight of your wedding guests.
Accommodation & Overnight Stay
Unfortunately, overnight stays are not possible on Isola del Garda. That’s why, at the end of the celebration, all guests—including the newlyweds—are transported back to the mainland. From there, you’ll have access to numerous stunning hotels, all within a short distance.
